Throwback Thursday – Brain on Fire

Throwback Thursday is a weekly meme created by Renee at It’s Book Talk as a way to share some old favorites as well as sharing books we want to read that were published over a year ago.

This week I’m throwing it back to Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness by Susannah Cahalan. BrainonFire

Published November 13th 2012 by Free Press

If you are interested in non fiction, medical mystery, mental health type topics then I highly recommend reading this book. I went through a phase where I loved anything that discussed moods/madness, etc. This is a fast read (250 pages) but it really captures Cahalan’s descent into madness and how her family helped her get a diagnosis.

If you’ve read this, what did you think? Does anyone else have recommendations that are similar to Brain on Fire?

If you’ve read this or would like similar books, I suggest Girl, Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen or An Unquiet Mind by Kay Redfield Jamison.

  1. I do enjoy these kinds of books. Have you read Prozac Nation? It’s also about a young woman’s struggle with mental illness. It’s a true story as well. It was so hard to read because it was so honest, and the poor author was such a brilliant writer.
